Every Outlands product spends a full season in the hands of guides before it is offered for sale. The ones that come back intact go into the range. The ones that do not go back to the drawing board with their failure photographed.

  • Single-source materials

    One mill for the canvas, one forge for the hardware. Traceable from bolt to bale.

  • Weather rated, not weather proof

    We publish the numbers a product actually held to, in the conditions we held it in.

  • Modular by default

    Panels, poles and straps share four fittings across the whole range. Nothing is orphaned by a redesign.

  • Repaired, not replaced

    Patterns, fabric and spares are held for fifteen years. Send it back and we will stitch it.

What the season taught us

Four things our guides sent back from the last testing rotation. We publish these whether or not they flatter the product.

Wind beats rain

Nine of eleven shelter failures last autumn were guy-line geometry, not fabric. The Vault Four went back for a wider footprint before release.

Warm light carries

Guides consistently chose 2200K over brighter cold output. Visible from further, kinder on night vision, easier to sleep beside.

Straps outlive bags

Every returned duffel had sound fabric and worn webbing. Webbing is now user-replaceable with two fittings and no tools.

Weight is a story

A 400g saving that costs ten minutes of pitching time in sleet is not a saving. We publish pitch times next to pack weights.
